(A landing. She knocks. He opens, a parcel in his arms.)
ELLE
Hi. It’s for me again. The courier’s been mixing up our doors for a month.
LUI
I know. I’ve got a whole wall of your parcels. I’ve learned things about you.
ELLE
…Like what?
LUI
Last week: watercolours. Before that: a book about lighthouses. And yesterday: a teapot for a single cup. You live alone and you paint lighthouses.
ELLE
You open my parcels?!
LUI
No! The labels. I read the labels. Very intently. Without meaning to.
(A beat. She takes the parcel, doesn’t leave.)
ELLE
There are two cups in this one. I upgraded.
LUI
Then I’ll keep my afternoon free. In case the second cup is looking for someone.

The Family Council
I have read it. The name he bears is too low for ours. My daughter shall love only whom I name. Father, one does not command the heart like a servant. It obeys in silence only when betrayed.

The Wrong Number
“Hey babe, I booked us for tonight 8 p.m., wear the nice shirt.” “Hello. I’m not ‘babe.’ But I’ll note that you own nice shirts.”

The Umbrella
Can I stay under yours till the corner? Mine turned inside out and died a hero. Of course. Careful, it leaks on the left. Historically, the side of people I don’t like.
