Acto came out of a gap, not an idea.
Acting has no barre and no scales. Between two projects, everyone builds their own routine alone, with no reference version to copy. Acto is the tool we wanted to have.
Who makes Acto?
A small team in Paris, founded by Léo Rousselière, an actor, who also writes the articles on this site. What goes into the app is decided from what actors actually do, not from what they are told to do. That is the one rule that has never moved.
Why one more app?
Because an actor’s daily work is scattered: a PDF for the script, voice memos for the cues, the camera app for the self-tape, a notebook for the breakdown. Nothing talks to anything, and everything gets lost. Acto brings the four gestures of the craft into one place, and keeps the text at the centre.
What will Acto never do?
No feed to scroll, no notification asking for you, no counter that blames you. The app opens in tense moments, the night before an audition or a self-tape due tomorrow: it has to take noise away, not add any. We measure it by whether you arrive better prepared, not by the time you spend in it.
